A delight to witness, DUST BUNNY is a strikingly imaginative and stylish feature debut from the crazed mind of Bryan Fuller! Like many children, 10-year-old Aurora (Sophie Sloan) fearfully believes a monster lurks beneath her bed. And with good reason: her foster parents have been eaten by one. Fortunately, she has devised a plan to hire the enigmatic hit man who lives next door (Mads Mikkelsen) to slay the beast. Writer-director Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) infuses his feature debut DUST BUNNY with delightfully infectious whimsy and vibrant visual style and much of his macabre fairy tale is skillfully conveyed through Sloan’s expressive features. It’s an endearing performance that brilliantly contrasts Mikkelsen’s, whose signature stoicism soulfully fractures with emotion as their unlikely circumstances escalate toward more fantastic heights.
